Packers
vs Bengals: The
Packers (Coach McCullion) win over the Bengals was a true team effort
with 4 different players scoring touchdowns from 3 different quarterbacks.
The Packers defense was equally impressive holding the Bengals to very
tough yards and keeping them out of the endzone.
Panthers
vs Broncos (DEFENSIVE BATTLE ENDS WITH PANTHERS VICTORY): Muddy
field conditions resulted in a defensive battle by two well prepared
teams. The Broncos began the game on offense, but the Panthers
Brenden Johnson quickly put an end to the drive by intercepting the
ball on the second play of the game. The Panthers took possession just
on their own side of mid-field. Two plays later, Adam Patton connected
with Johnson for the first touchdown of the season. Pattons extra
point attempt fell just short of the diving Jonathan Kessel and the
score was the Panthers 6 - Broncos 0. The Broncos and Panthers combined
for several big plays during the remainder of the game. On the Panthers
second possession, Patton connected with Daniel Miller for a 23 yard
completion. However, the drive sputtered three plays later. The teams
then traded three and out possessions, with the Panthers defense being
led by Trevor Andrus and Larry Ryan. The half ended on an interception
by Patton.
The Panthers started
the second half with a great play that resulted 22 yards and a first
down. However, the Broncos defense once again stiffened and the ball
was turned over on downs. The Broncos quickly countered with their biggest
play of the game, moving deep into Panthers territory. However, a fumbled
snap and two good defensive plays, keyed by the pass rush of Tyler Vanburk,
ended the drive. The Panthers next possession looked like it was going
to be three and out, however, a pass from James Zentz to a streaking
Conor Hotaling broke open a big play that resulted in a key first down.
Once again, the Broncos defense stiffened and they kept the Panthers
out of the end zone. After a three and out for the Broncos, led by the
excellent defensive efforts of Brian Jacob, the Panthers once again
hit a big play as Zentz broke free around the left end for a gain of
35 yards to the Broncos 15 yard line. The drive ended two plays later
when the Broncos intercepted a Zentz pass. The Panthers defense once
again rose to the occasion and stopped the Broncos on downs. The game
ended with a Broncos interception at mid-field.

Dohnavyn Jefferson caught a short TD pass from Quarterback Jake Roberts
and Nicholas Kearney added two extra points for all of the offensive

the game as Hayden Frey intercepted a Patriots pass and the the Steeler

scored late on a long pass to close out the games scoring. Now the Steelers
have to put this one behind them as they prepare for the showdown against
the defending league runner-up Raiders.
Buccaneers
vs Packers: The
Bucs beat the packers 24-0. The first half ended 6-0 on a run by Ryan
Fox. Bryan Magill connected with Anthony Cooper and Tyler Bowden for
touchdowns and Anthony ran one in as well. Another solid defensive performance.
Panthers
vs Eagles: On a beautiful spring day, the Junior Pro Eagles
and Panthers matched up for an early season showdown. From the start
of the game, the Eagles came ready to play, even though they were missing
a few very good players. The Panthers began the game on offense and
it looked like they were going to have a great day. The second play
from scrimmage resulted in a 25 yard run by Brenden Johnson off a fake
reverse to Trevor Vanburk. With a first down at the Eagles 10 yard line,
it look like the Panthers would strike early. However, the next 3 plays
resulted in no net gain and the ball was turned over to the Eagles on
downs. The Eagles quickly struck for a big play to the Panthers 15 yard
line and a first down. The Eagles offense earned a first down on 4 of
their 6 possessions and looked very good on offense all day long. This
possession stalled due to two good defensive plays resulting in negative
yards by Daniel Miller and James Zentz.
On the next possession,
Zentz had a long gain which fell just short of a first down and the
Panthers possession went 3 and out. The Eagles once again gained a quick
first down and then struck on a 20 yard TD pass on the third play of
the possession. The extra point was good and the score was Eagles 7
and Panthers 0.
On the very next
play from scrimmage, the Eagles tackled the Panthers in the backfield
for a 6 yard loss and a safety. The score was now Eagles 9 and Panthers
0. The half ended on an interception by Johnson and one desperation
play by the Panthers which came up short of the end zone. The halftime
score was Eagles 9 and Panthers 0.
The second half
started with each team gaining a first down and then stalling short
of the end zone. On the third series of the second half, the Panthers
forced a 3 and out and it looked like they may be able to gain some
momentum and cut into the nine point deficit. However, on the second
play from scrimmage, a high snap sailed into the end zone and resulted
in a second safety. The score was now Eagles 11 and Panthers 0. The
Panthers tried to mount a comeback by attacking the middle with some
quick passes from Adam Patton to Jonathan Kessel, but each time the
Eagles met the challenge and kept the Panthers scoreless.
Despite the score,
the Panthers continue to look strong on a defense. One broken play in
this game is the only touchdown they have surrendered all year. Several
great defensive plays were made by Vanburk, Patton, Trevor Andrus, Larry
Ryan and Conor Hotaling.
Raiders vs
Packers (E): This

Redskins
vs Cowboys: It
was a beautiful Spring day as the Cowboys & Redskins took the field
to open the 2008 Season. The home team Redskins won the toss & began
the game on offense; both teams got off to a slow start as they battled
for field possession, looking for things to warm up.
The Cowboys marched down field on their 3rd possession but were intercepted
at the goal line by Jordan Hamid of the Redskins, preventing an early
Cowboys touchdown. A competitive first half saw the Cowboys striking
first on their next possession, matched by the running touchdown of
Redskin Nick Poesch on the next possession. At the half, the score was
tied, 6-6 in a classic battle that rivaled an NFC East showdown.
Dallas opened the 2nd half with a touchdown but were matched by a Redskins
TD on the ensuing possession, tying the game at 12. This game was the
kind of game everyone loves to watch - there was great defense being
played by both teams & offensive production to match. The Cowboys
displayed excellent coverage as the Redskins looked to pass deep several
times, and the Redskins' flag pulling & interceptions saved more
than one Cowboys TD.
Redskin player Nick Friedl intercepted the Cowboys twice in the 2nd
half, each one leading to a TD pas from Stephen Tapp to Jacob Mumma.
With the score 26-12 in favor of the Redskins, Dallas intercepted the
Redskins and nearly scored - QB Stephen Tapp saved the TD and protected
the Redskins lead. With their backs against the wall, the Cowboys gave
the Redskins the ball back with 3 minutes to play. The first play found
a big gain for Redskin Nick Poesch, followed by a running TD from Nick
Friedl. The game ended with the Redskins missing the 1 point conversion,
the final score was Redskins 32-Cowboys 12.
The score doesn't tell the tale of this game, it was highly competitive
& really came down to a few late possessions. Teamwork was the theme
for the Redskins' victory - every player contributed. There were many
stars of this game but they real star was both teams as they displayed
good sportsmanship & played like champions until the final whistle.
